Company History

SmarterTools began as a way for web hosting companies to provide reliable, powerful and fully functional email and web analytics software that was both simple to understand for end users and easy install and manage for network administrators. As such, the hosting industry was SmarterTools' first natural vertical market, and now, with three well established products—SmarterMail, SmarterTrack and SmarterStats—each built for multi-tenancy, automation, density and stability, SmarterTools has grown to become a leading provider of software for the hosting industry as well as thousands of small to medium-sized businesses worldwide.

Company Leadership

Tim Uzzanti

Chief Executive Officer Tim Uzzanti

Tim is a recognized technologist and business leader who has hosted and presented at major industry events. He previously founded and served as the CEO of CrystalTech Web Hosting Inc., cultivating it into one of the largest Windows hosting companies at the time. Originally founded by Uzzanti in 1997, CrystalTech Web Hosting Inc. was acquired by Newtek Business Services (NASDAQ: NEWT) in July 2004, giving Uzzanti a well-rounded background of executive management within both private and public companies. Uzzanti also spent several years as a technical specialist at Honeywell International Inc. In addition to his achievements in the IT industry, Uzzanti has delivered significant results in commercial development and other endeavors.

Grady Werner

Internal Development & R&D Manager Grady Werner

Grady manages the teams responsible for the maintenance and development of SmarterTools’ internal products (billing systems, intranet, business management systems, and services associated with SmarterTools’ products). His duties include project-planning, product planning, and working closely with the CEO on the future development of both internal products as well as new product development. In addition, he is responsible for understanding the development industry as a whole as well as staying up-to-date on internal and external customer needs. Before SmarterTools, Grady was a senior developer at Mythos Software, an educational and entertainment software company.

Derek Curtis

Vice President of Marketing & Communications Derek Curtis

Derek manages the team responsible for how SmarterTools is represented to the world via its Website design and content, its social media involvement, via its blog, in public forums and various other forms of customer communication. In addition his team is responsible for marketing SmarterTools’ products and all related services to an international audience. Finally, Derek is also in charge of managing and maintaining technical and integration partnerships for all SmarterTools products. Before coming to SmarterTools, Derek held VP-level technical and business-related positions at Newtek Business Services.

Bryon Grosz

SmarterMail Development Manager Bryon Grosz

Bryon manages the team responsible for the maintenance and development of SmarterMail, SmarterTools’ Microsoft Exchange replacement mail and collaboration software. His duties include project-planning, product planning, and working closely with the CEO on the future development of SmarterMail. In addition, he is responsible for understanding the development industry as a whole as well as staying up-to-date on customer needs. Before SmarterTools, Bryon was a senior developer at Mythos Software, an educational and entertainment software company.

Andrew White

SmarterTrack & SmarterStats Development Manager Andrew White

Andrew manages the teams responsible for the maintenance and development of SmarterTrack, SmarterTools’ web-based help desk and customer service software, as well as SmarterStats business analytics. His duties include project-planning, product planning, and working closely with the CEO on the future development of both SmarterTrack and SmarterStats. In addition, he is responsible for understanding the development industry as a whole as well as staying up-to-date on customer needs. SmarterTools hired Andrew straight out of college and both his development skills and his project management acumen have earned him his position within the company.

Brian Ward

Customer Relations Manager Brian Ward

Brian manages the customer support, customer service and partner relations teams at SmarterTools. His teams are responsible for the efficient resolution of any issues surrounding all SmarterTools products, including all services associated with SmarterTools’ products, as well as ensuring SmarterTools’ distribution partnerships and partner programs are running at the highest levels possible. Before SmarterTools, Brian worked for a payment processing company as their supervisor of installation and customer support.

Sally Whittington

Office Manager Sally Whittington

Sally is responsible for managing SmarterTools’ accounting, human resources and general office requirements. These duties include scheduling any office maintenance, notifying delinquent accounts, processing payments, participating in job fairs, processing new hire paperwork, accounts payable, weekly reconciliations and much more. Prior to coming to SmarterTools, and moving to Arizona, Sally worked at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center in Michigan.
